A National Dialogue on Mental Health
Earlier this week, the White House kicked off an extremely important nationwide conversation on mental health. It began with a conference at the White House on Monday which, along with the launch of the website MentalHealth.gov, launched a wider array of mental health messaging which includes youth-oriented PSAs, expanded veterans services, and outreach via the internet (per the Washington Post).
Here are President Obama’s opening comments from Monday’s conference:
Our friends at AmericaSpeaks, the Deliberative Democracy Consortium, Everyday Democracy, the National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation, and the National Institute for Civil Discourse, along with the National Issues Forum, have also gotten in on the act, coming together to use deliberative democracy practices to collect community feedback on mental health. Creating Community Solutions is part of the National Dialogue on Mental Health, and will be coordinating local community dialogues across the country for folks to learn more about mental health, share some of their personal stories, and hear from experts in the field.
